Regulatory Director

About:

The Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA) is a federal coalition focused on advocating for the advancement of the electric vehicle supply chain. ZETA is committed to enacting policies that drive EV adoption, create hundreds of thousands of jobs, and maintain American EV manufacturing dominance in global markets.

Position:

ZETA is seeking to fill a full-time Regulatory Director position. As a Regulatory Director, you will be part of an experienced team working to advance the EV supply chain. In this role, you will have an extraordinary opportunity to be on the leading edge of policy development, with an immediate impact on ZETA’s federal regulatory policy. The Regulatory Director will directly interact with agencies across the federal government and external stakeholders (NGOs, think tanks, and members of academia) that play a key role in electrifying the transportation sector.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and file regulatory documents on behalf of ZETA.
  • Distill and share the organization’s perspective on regulatory issues with key stakeholders.
  • Conduct research that reflects ZETA’s priorities and contributes to critical policy outcomes.
  • Monitor and analyze regulatory announcements for the organization; succinctly synthesize the information for internal audiences on potential or proposed federal, state, or agency action.
  • Draft materials in various formats (e.g., long-form documents, presentations, testimony, and letters) that advance ZETA’s regulatory priorities, including commenting on proposed regulations and rules.
  • Advocate for the organization’s perspective with key officials and the general public and brief elected officials, senior administrative officials, and their staff on a variety of transportation electrification issues.
  • Work collaboratively with fellow team members and cross-functional colleagues to write, publish, and widely disseminate briefs, fact sheets, talking points, infographics, reports, and other documents to educate agency officials, legislators, stakeholders, and the general public.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts throughout the organization to draft materials that share our research, analysis, and possible recommendations with key officials.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for all regulatory-related litigation matters, collaborating with legal teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment with ZETA’s regulatory goals.
  • Work directly with outside counsel to navigate complex legal issues, providing strategic guidance on regulatory compliance and litigation strategies to support ZETA’s overall mission.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of direct experience in regulatory/public policy space, ideally in the transportation sector.
  • DOE, DOT, FERC, or Capitol Hill experience strongly preferred.
  • Advanced degree required, J.D. strongly preferred.
  • A strong understanding of transportation issues and the strategies and tools needed to achieve policy change using legislative, administrative, and regulatory processes.
  • Superlative research and writing skills.
  • Ability to provide and articulate thought leadership and analyze legislative and administrative policy.
  • Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, and a self-starter with strong communication skills.
  • Must be able to self-manage and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in working with diverse audiences, including elected officials, community leaders,and coalition partners.
  • Knowledgeable on transportation and electrification policy with a particular focus on electric vehicles and EV charging infrastructure.

Location:

Washington, DC, with a hybrid work environment offering some opportunities for non-DC related work on a case-by-case basis.
