WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Zero Emission Transportation Association published a new policy brief today titled “Safety First: Practices, Policies, and Requirements in the EV Sector.” Using case studies written by ZETA members ChargePoint, Li-Cycle, Panasonic, Rivian, and Tesla, the brief showcases the industry’s commitment to consumer and worker safety and highlights how vehicle manufacturers, battery producers, recyclers, and charging operators are raising the bar when it comes to automotive safety.
“EVs are already as safe or safer than gas-powered vehicles, and manufacturers are going above and beyond to surpass today’s safety standards. This policy brief highlights some of those efforts across the EV supply chain,” said Albert Gore, executive director of ZETA. “Prioritizing safety requires dedication and focus. With this in mind, the policy brief does more than just showcase the landscape of today’s supply chain, but also includes recommendations on how policymakers can support future progress.”
The report includes several policy proposals for individuals interested in moving the safety conversation forward. These include supporting efforts that promote education in EV and battery handling, creating a universal battery manufacturing curriculum, investing in battery research and development, encouraging collaboration between federal agencies and other regulatory bodies, and providing funding to support information sharing and training for first responders.
