In response to President Joe Biden’s executive order directing the U.S. government to move towards a fully electric vehicle fleet, Zero Emission Transportation Association (ZETA) Executive Director Joe Britton issued the following statement:
“A week into their tenure, the Biden-Harris Administration is demonstrating their strong commitment to rapid vehicle electrification, recognizing the opportunity EVs present to create jobs, advance American competitiveness, and decarbonize the U.S. economy. By transitioning the federal vehicle fleet to EVs, President Biden is leading by example, sending a strong market and policy signal while catalyzing the transportation electrification sector and advancing the critical secondary market for EVs.
“As we embark on this effort, ZETA is renewing its call for lawmakers to pair this leadership with Congressional action to match other global competitors like China and the European Union and to accelerate transportation electrification by enacting a set of commonsense measures this year.
“Beyond federal procurement, ZETA has outlined a comprehensive plan in its Roadmap to 2030 Policy Platform to drive electrification of the transportation sector. The plan will support consumers, drive domestic manufacturing, protect public health, and build out charging infrastructure to meet every communities’ needs.
“We look forward to continuing our work with President Biden and Congress to accomplish our vision of 100% EV sales by 2030.”
Joe Britton is the Executive Director of the Zero Emission Transportation Association, which is the first industry-backed coalition of its kind advocating for 100% of vehicles sold by 2030 to be electric. He has spent over fifteen years working in the U.S. Senate.
